Hazel English grew up in Australia and then ran away to the US of A. Oakland to be precise. The 25-year-old musican makes beautifully blurry indie-pop music powered by transcendent melodies and caked in layers of Californian sunshine and redolent reverb. Her new EP is titled 'Never Going Home'. Let's hope that she one day returns to our shores because let's face it, Australia is bloody beautiful.

As much as I loath Facebook, it does bring people together. For example, Melbourne-based Post-Punk outfit Tom Prettys (gotta love that name) all met on a FB group late in 2015. This month they released a new single 'Shelf Life' and launched it on their own DIY label Queeze Records. Tidy work boys.

You can't help but feel nostalgic when you listen to the new single 'Another Year' from Sydney indie outfit Shrapnel. Let's face it, it's already August and the years nearly over. Each year will go even faster and faster. One day you're 20, in love at uni and the next you're 50, divorced, living on your ma's couch with a gambling problem. Where does the time go? Anyway, back to the fine music of Shrapnel. Originally starting out as a bedroom project of Sam Wilkinson (Day Ravies, Mope City, Beef Jerk, King Tears Mortuary), after two cassette releases – 2014’s Tobacco Dreams (Tenth Court) and 2015’s Carpet Yankers (Strange Pursuits) – Shrapnel started to morph into a band of its own accord, picking up members, including past and present members of Day Ravies, Mope City, Julia Why?, Miners, Weak Boys and Dollar Bar. Shrapnel’s debut album 'Tranceplanetsugarmouth' is out late-October through new Brisbane label Coolin’ By Sound.

What you looking at fool? Don't you know that I'm the meanest blues duckman this side of the galaxy!? Besides having some sweet single artwork, Sydney blues king Jesse Redwing's second single 'Round It goes' is the real deal. Nothing but sweet licks and soulful vox. And we're not the only ones behind JR, just this week he signed a deal with renowned indie label Create/Control. Expect his studio full-length later this year. If you are in Sydney be sure to catch him live tomorrow night when he launches 'Round It Goes'.
