Morning Harvey - Lights Camera Gina

It's Halloween and I have a song that is worthy of your ghoulish ears. Psych-pop lads Morning Harvey are back again with the first single from their upcoming debut album. 'Lights Camera Gina' shows a dynamic and creative shift in the band’s sound with plenty of lush synths and harrowing vocals from frontman Spencer White.

Osaka - Vessel

I bet that most musicians wish they were making music this good when they were 18 years old. New Melbourne trio Osaka recently released their debut single ‘Vessel’. 10 years ago I would have been listening to electro-indie outfits like Test Icicles, The klaxons and The Rapture. Now in 2015, it's nice to hear a band that is taking a little bit of the old and making it new.

Zefereli - Withdrawals

I've been having some crazy dreams lately. They're not really nightmares but are kinda disturbing. Maybe it's because I've been trying to given up smoking cigarettes? Either way, these lucid withdrawal dreams are freaky. Also feeling freaky withdrawals is Zefereli a.k.a Alistar Richardson (frontman for Brisbane indie band The Cairos). He's got a new EP 'Withdrawals' out and this one is the lead single. Dreamy.

Jesse Redwing - Comin' On

One might say that it's hard to find an authentic blues sound in Sydney? One might say I wasn't looking in the right spots? But who really cares now because I just found Sydney's own Howlin Wolf - Jesse Redwing. His drum and bass players are great musicians and make the trio tight but Jesse is the guy who brings their sound to the next level. He can play a damn fine blues lick, blow some serious harp and deliver vocals with more swagger than your granny's first skate. Check out their debut single 'Comin' On' and if you like what you hear, then head down to their single launch in Sydney and Melbourne.

Thursday, 12th November - Co-headline: WILSN EP Launch + Jesse Redwing Single Launch, Brighton Up bar, Darlinghurst, Sydney

Saturday, 14th November - Jesse Redwing supporting WILSN, The Gasometer Hotel, Collingwood, Melbourne

Kuren - See You Again

When you remove an image from it’s original context and assemble it a brand new way, the beautiful can meet the unexpected and create a new story. Similar to the above collage, Kuren's (the moniker of teenage self-taught producer, Curtis Kennedy) approach to electronic music is a perfect blend of unique thinking and experimentation. 'See You Again' is just one of the five doozies you can find (and download for free) on his new EP 'Love Lost'.

Kirin J Callinan - The Teacher (feat. Connan Mockasin)

It's pretty safe to say that Sydney-based musician Kirin J Callinan is something special. Watching him perform live, will probably change the way you view and experience music. Kirin has returned with his brand-new single 'The Teacher', featuring vocals from good friend and collaborator Connan Mockasin. 'The Teacher' has some pretty clear 80's pop sensibilities but is engulfed by Kirin's Australiana grittiness and raw banter. Expect Callinan’s forthcoming second LP sometime early next year. 'The Teacher' is out now via Siberia Records (AUS), Record Makers (EUR) and Terrible Records (USA).

New Lovers - Fatel Shore

In a beautiful molotov cocktail of shoegaze, industrial grooves and post-punk goodness, Sydney band New Lovers have shot through with the darkness and released their critically acclaimed first single 'Fatal Shore' from their debut record ‘Performance’ (due out early next year). The Lyric 'Why don't you get it together' sticks in your mind long after the six-minute track finishes. This is probably due to the nicely generated hypnotic grooves, that New Lovers generate. A strong debut.

Richard In Your Mind - Ecstatic Electricity

Okay people, Sydney's favorite psychedelic-pop group Richard In Your Mind are back with a new single. ‘Ecstatic Electricity' brings more than a light zap. Like getting 50,000 volts of electrically charged goodness shot down your legs, up your spine and into your brain! ‘Ecstatic Electricity' is high voltage rock'n'roll. Long-time drummer Pat Torres (who relocated to NYC) has been replaced by Carlos Adura (ex-Deep Sea Arcade). With a new drummer comes new material, exciting times ahead for RIYM lads. They will be touring extensively in Nov/Dec. Go check them out. Do it.

FOREVR - Contest

Immerse yourself in the new single 'Contest' from Brisbane duo FOREVR. This track builds elegantly around layers of washy guitar, beating drums, soft electronica and hauntingly beautiful vocals (which made me think of Laura Palmer and how I should watch Twin Peaks again). Anyway, 'Contest' will be released in December on 7-inch vinyl 'Shoegazer' through cult label Tym Records.

Eastward - Old Green Thumb

When I first played 'Old Green Thumb', I didn't know what to expect. The first 20 or 30 seconds didn't do it for me. It was only after that moment that I knew that I had stumbled onto something special. Melbourne songwriter, musician, and producer Eden Altman goes under the moniker Eastward. Who needs lyrics when you create shimmering tracks like this. Repeat, Old Green Thumb, Repeat.

SUIIX - Alright

There is something reminiscently 90's about SUIIX's (pronounced Soo-ie) new single 'Alright'. It could be the analogue synthesisers or the electronic beats or her dreamy vocals? Either way, the atmospheric soundscape Sarah Jullienne creates is quite mesmerising. Writing, producing and recording all her own music, SUIIX is one talented Sydney musician to keep an eye on! Debut EP coming soon...

Mount Defiance - Football Is A Contact Sport

With a high risk of knee, ankle, head concussions and groin injuries. Football is a pretty dangerous sport. New kids on the (Melbourne) block Mount Defiance give us their first easy-going jangly-pop number 'Football Is A Contact Sport'. This one is lifted from their forthcoming debut EP 'Learning Derby' scheduled for release in later this month. The boys should definitely stay away from football and maybe stick to playing lawn bowls on their mum's lush lawn. Who knows maybe the next single could be titled 'Lawn Balls, the Supple Game'?

Miners - Empty Words

Wollongong is probably best known for it's peachy coastal beaches and maybe it's (dying) steel industry? But what is great to see, is a wave of young whippersnappers who are making music with a difference. Introducing psych/shoe-gazers Miners. The lads just released their debut Ep 'Pala' today. The lead single 'Wrings' is a well crafted song but my favorite track has to be 'Empty Words'. It cuts and dices like Die! Die! Die! meets At The Dive-In meets Ride. Amazing. Be sure get your copy of the EP from new label Strange Pursuits and catch them live when they tour 'Pala' this October.
