The Murlocs - Adolescence

Ah Adolescence, that awkward time in your life when you grow from childhood into young adulthood. I remember my voice breaking, growing hair where there was no hair before and trying to find my own identity. According to The Murlocs vocalist Ambrose Kenny-Smith their new track 'Adolescence' is exactly about that, "Still experiencing puberty blues when you have well outgrown your teenage years. The mood swings of a 20 something dropkick". The Murlocs will release their second studio album in June 2015 via Flightless/Remote Control Records. Till then catch them on tour this April.

Darts - Westward Bound

'Westward Bound' hits you like a sucker punch to the face! It's aggressive, melancholic and impossible to listen to without being totally absorbed. Darts are a Melbourne five-piece who just signed to Sydney Indie label Rice Is Nice. Their debut album 'Below Empty and Westward Bound' will be out on the 15th of May.

Tired Lion - I Don't Think You Like Me

In the mid 90's I was introduced to a bunch of alternate rock groups, primarily thanks to my older sister. Bands like Garbage, Hole, Smashing Pumkins and The Cranberries were all staples in my house hold. I grew up with an appreciation to that 90's grunge sound, loud guitars, raw and honest lyrics. When I heard Perth's Tired Lion and their first single of their upcoming second EP 'I Don't Think You Like Me', I couldn't help feeling nostalgic. Remembering all those times I'd play air guitar, jumping up and down on my bed, listening to Garbage until my mum would run into my room and threaten me with the wooden spoon. Ah, thank god there are bands like Tired Lion in 2015 to remind me of those moments.

Wild Honey - Coming Home

Combining 60s garage, psychedelia and surf pop influences into their music, new group Wild Honey are sleazing their way into the Sydney music scene. After doing a little research I found out half the band (lead singer Thom Moore and drummer Julian Sudek) used to play in one of my favourite Sydney bands in the 2000's Mercy Arms. 'Coming Home' is the first taste from the guys and was recorded earlier this year with producer Tim Whitten & Jack Moffitt from The Preatures. Expect big things from Wild Honey in 2015.

YEEVS - Lazy

5 months ago I heard 'Speakin' Some Sense' by Sydney trio YEEVS. I instantly fell in love with their classic Aussie rock'n'roll sound. 'Lazy' is YEEVS' new single and shows the band maturing in sound and song writing. The guys are getting ready to write and record their debut EP this year. Until then you can catch them live tomorrow (February 20th) at Oxford Art Factory and The Vic on the Park on Thursday March 12th.

TEES - Everyone

I'm having acid flashbacks. Travelling to a remote island in Thailand, some British nut raved on about. I need to see the photographs. I can't remember anything. It must have been that beach party. I remember the silky acid house and techno beats now. Waking up on the beach with those dreamy vocals soothing my sore head. It's all coming back to me now. The song was called ‘Everyone’ and the band was TEES.

Jesse Davidson - Laika

It's been over a year since I wrote about prodigy son Jesse Davidson. His single 'Big Bois Gotta Eat' was drenched in dreamy reverb and made me an instant fan. His new single 'Laika' is a smooth cosmic jam with lush harmonies and lo-fi electronica. Another great single from a rising star. He's playing some shows in Feb/March around the country, so get out and experience Jesse Davidson.

Loon Lakes - Surfin

When I was 14 all I wanted to do was surf and skate. Hanging out with mates and not giving a fuck. ah, that was the simple life. Now I gotta worry about bills and that 9-5 job I should be looking for. Yuk. Thank god that Loon Lake's new single 'Surfin' takes the edge off. Catch them live in Melbourne on Thursday 26 March at Shebeen and on Friday 27 March at Brighton Up Bar, Sydney. Yew.

Ainslie Wills - Drive

Melbourne alt-folk artist Ainslie Wills' new single 'Drive' is rich with beautiful guitar melodies, flawless vocals and sweeping drums. Awesome foursome Dick Diver have just released the second single from their forthcoming album 'Melbourne, Florida'. As you would expect from these guys, 'Tearing The Posters Down' is jangling guitar power pop with a real Aussie sensibility. The record will be available on March 6 on vinyl, CD and digital through the good folks at Chapter Music (Aus/NZ/Japan) and March 10 through Trouble In Mind (rest of world).
