Love Signs - Hold You Down

Love Signs are a New Brisbane four piece made up of Izzy, Emma, Monica and Liam. The Brisbane group just released their second single 'Hold You Down'. It's guitar-pop with a womanly touch, the vocals are angelic and the riffs are warm and fuzzy with a pinch of 90's post punk goodness.

Blonde Tongues - Hey Good Lookin'

Blonde Tongues say they are a band you have probably never heard of, who played in previous bands you have probably never heard of, and are from a suburb in Brisbane you have probably never heard of. This might all be true for now but maybe not for long. This four piece create beautifully atmospheric dream pop. They just released a new single today called 'Hey Good Lookin' and although it's nearly six minutes in length, the song never gets tired or boring. I myself got lost in the moment listening to this one and I'm sure you will too.

Lanks - Beach Houses

I coved Melbourne solo artist Lanks' track Rises and Falls back in January this year. Since then he has released five other stellar singles. His latest track is smoother then a babies butt! It's titled 'Beach Houses' and like the title suggests, listening to this track is a relaxing getaway. The production is minimal yet quirky and the added flute makes this track very refreshing. Expect a new EP from this talented dude in early 2015.

Cull - Nasty Drought

My favourite experimental shoe-gaze band in Australia has to be Cull. There is no doubt that these guys push the boundaries with every release. When I first heard 'World Inside Your Head' in 2013 and later the beautifully cosmic 'Magi Fuel' I knew these guys were creating something special.Their new single title 'Nasty Drought' is layered to perfection, the lyrics sweep through the dreamy guitar riffs and create radiant landscapes. You can download this one from their Bandcamp for a dollar - cheap as chips mate.

The Furrs - 66

Back in May, Brisbane fireballs The Furrs gave us their blue rock single 'Little Boy', off the bands self titled EP. Fast track 6 months and the band are back with another filthy blues rock number. The single is titled '66' and I could imagine blasting this song on my stereo as I race down Route 66, through Arizona, New Mexico and Texas in my red pontiac convertible. The riff is raw and dirty and sounds as good as any early BRMC riffs. It'll have have your feet tapping and your tale rattling. Stay tuned for their new EP, due out early next year.

Prints - I Thought I'd Hear You Arrive

Sydney band Prints just released their 6 track EP titled 'Some People Will Listen To Anything'. Lead single 'Lady Penelope' has been up on their Soundcloud for a little while now and the guys just released a spanking new video to accompany the EP release (sure, not much happens in the video but that's about as exciting as catching an inner-west train gets). Lady Penelope might be the lead single but I was drawn to the first track on the EP, 'I Thought I'd Hear You Arrive'. From the driving bass line and the infectiously rigid guitar lick, the song bends elements of post punk, garage pop and indie, while the narrative songwriting and the tightly wound guitar hooks are  catchy-as-hell and well balanced. The Ep is officially out today (free download from Bandcamp). Plus you can also catch Prints live when they play in Melbourne and Sydney.

Skegss - Rock'n'Roll Radio

Byron Bay's Skegss haven't been around for long but their infectious slacker-garage-surf-pop is making waves up and down the east coast of Australia at the moment. Their first single L.S.D had clocked over 17, 000 views on youtube since July. The band have just released a new video for their second single 'Rock'n'roll Radio'. The single and accompanying video is all about good times, drinking beer, hanging with mates and generally not giving a fuck. If you are in Sydney tonight, catch Skegss rip Jam Gallery a new one in Bondi Junction (details here) or catch them on one of their other 'World Tour' shows.

I know leopard - Perfect Picture

The electronic spirit is strong in Sydney four piece I Know LeopardFollowing the release of their debut EP 'Illumina' earlier in the year, the band have released a follow up single 'Perfect Picture'. It's the first taste of the band’s sophomore EP. The single has plenty of colossal synths and popping strings. The vocals are draped in nostalgia, that is both soothing and meditative. Bravo.

West Thebarton Brothel Party - Glenn McGrath

I was wondering why new Adelaide seven piece West Thebarton Brothel Party released a single called 'Glenn McGrath', in which the chorus shouts 'Don't F--k with my wife'? After a little research, I found out that Glenn 'Pigeon' McGrath (Aussie fast bowler) and a West Indian cricket player Ramnaresh Sarwan had a verbal clash on the pitch back in 03'. It got pretty heated with the Australian telling Sarwan "If you ever f---ing mention my wife again, I will f---ing rip your f---ing throat out." Nice sportsmanship Pigeon. Now if the song was written about that incident, the band have chosen a very random event in sports history and turned it into a raucously good song. WTBP have already supported the likes of Wavves (USA), Courtney Barnett, Velociraptor, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Bad//Dreems. And next month they will be supporting one of my favourite US bands Cloud Nothings at Adelaide UniBar on Tuesday Dec 9. The new single ‘Glenn McGrath’ is from their forthcoming self-titled EP, to be released in 2015 through the legends at Mirador Records. Stay tuned...

The Upskirts - Where

Back in March Sydney shoe-gaze rockers The Upskirts released their epically sonic 'Minds A Burden'. The four-piece have been busy working on their third EP (scheduled for release in early 2015). Last week the guys released their brand new single 'Where'. Mixing their signature rock'n'roll with elements of 90's grunge, psych and shoe-gaze, 'Where' is rich in sound and also has a deeper theme behind it. Frontman Nick Stillman explains the track is "about this idea of a character who can't quite stay still, who never feels completely satisfied with what they're doing and always needs to be doing something else." I think we can all agree that we've been in that position. And if I were The Upskirts I would be mightily satisfied with their latest release.

Pepa Knight - Coyote Choir

Pepa Knight needs no introduction on SPK. If you have been reading the last couple months, then you would have heard his worldly pop hit's Rahh! and Clams. Following on from his highly anticipated debut record Hypnotized Vol.I (released on Friday November 28th independently) The Jinja Safari co-frontman has released the third and final teaser to be taken from his debut album (due 2015), titled 'Coyote Choir'. Knight's spiritual connection to India must be deep. All the holy places, rituals and traditions that he experienced would have had a great impact on him. 'Coyote Choir' offers us self awareness, it could also be about finding your own compass in life. I know listening to this song makes me want to drift off and find my own spiritual self. You can catch Pepa this November when he tours.

Darren Sylvester - Fresh Face

Art and music go hand in hand and Darren Sylvester is man whose work in both mediums are experimental and innovative. Recently he released a new video for his fourth single 'Fresh Face' from his 2013 album Off By Heart. The video was shot at the National Gallery of Victoria on Darren’s own installation artwork For You. The premise of the video is that you could rock up to any Karaoke bar and sing your favourite Chapter Music songs. With such a stellar line up including Twerps, Dick Diver & Beaches, I don't see why this idea hasn't been done!

Gunns - The Fool

Gunns hail from the sleepy seaside town of Fremantle in Western Australia. The band is the brainchild of guitarist Clinton Oliver (The Growl). Joined by four of his talented mates, Gunns make effortlessly cool music that is a hybrid of dream pop, psych and garage. Their latest single 'The Fool' is layered with hypnotising synths and hazy laid back vocals. Clinton said the song has a simple message -"be real, be honest, be yourself". If you like what you hear then catch Gunns, when they embark on a national tour with indie-pop darlings San Cisco this month. And they will also be performing with The Preatures and HAMJAM in their hometown during December.

Pond - Elvis' Flaming Star

Pond are one of those band who push their musical boundaries into new territories with each release. On January 23, the world will get to experience the band’s new album, Man It Feels Like Space Again. First single ‘Elvis’ Flaming Star’ is a futuristic psych pop number that feels like a ‘70s glam band fronted by David Bowie. We can't wait to hear the rest of the record and see the tracks live when Pond tour around the country for the Laneway Festival this summer.
