I love coming home to a slow-cooked stew. It doesn't happen often but when you get all those ingredients combining together over a long period of time, creating a fusion of flavour, you know it's going to taste amazing. Speaking of combining ingredients, Melbourne’s Halcyon Drive are two dudes who combine many styles to create a music fusion that is dam tasty. New single 'Apart' has a little bit of everything but remember to be patient and let this one do it's thing and I'll guarantee you'll be rewarded in the end. Bon appétit.

It's been nearly a year since self-described surf-goth five piece Soviet X-Ray Record Club released their last single 'Magentic North'. The Queensland band have just released a new track 'Never Enough'. It’s the b-side of a forthcoming 7", and the first taste of their debut album 'Wake' (which is due out this November). The bass and drums are the driving force on 'Never Enough', while the ominous lyrics dip and flow like oily patterns in their lyric video which accompanies this release.

Chicks Who Love Guns are one of my favorite Sydney bands. With each release sees the gang expand their sound into new territory. New single 'The Deep End' is the opening track from the band's forthcoming three-track 7"(to be released in September). Accompanied by a brand new video clip, the song has a warm embrace, whilst still maintaining the bands energetic sound. CWLG will be embarking on a bunch of east coast shows in support of the 7" and the first stop is in their home town of Sydney this weekend. Interstate shows will be announced shortly, so hit up their FB page for those dates.
"THE DEEP END" SYDNEY LAUNCH

Melbourne indie five-piece Playwrite have just released their second single 'Whittaker' off their forthcoming debut album (due out later this year). 'Whittaker' was written in the ambient settings of the Victorian Hinterland. I can imagine the scenery was breathtaking and writing such a raw and honest single would have been much easier then in the hustle and bustle of the big city. It's music for the soul and I can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

Brisbane 4-piece Moses Gunn Collective aren't just another psych-rock band. Firstly they're made up of The Belligerents, Morning Harvey, The Family Jordan, Orphans Orphans and The Furrs (which you'd know are the bee's knees of Brisbane bands at the moment) and secondly, their blend of jangle pop meets space rock is easily some of the best psych music I've heard this year. The chorus on their new single 'Shalala' demonstrates that these guys can write a hook as good as Tame Impala or Animal Collective. To celebrate the release of 'Shalala' the band are hitting the road next month and plan to release their new EP in October. Get on board.

Bad//Dreems have become one of my favorite aussie bands over the past year. I first fell in love with their single 'Hoping For'. The hook in that song is the bomb. Currently on a national tour with The Preatures (which I heard BD had a blinding set at the sold out Metro show on the weekend), the band seem to do no wrong. New single 'My Only Friend' is a perfect example of their evolving sound. Less explosive and much more melancholy then their previous releases. 'My Only Friend' is a dark tale of regret/loss and there is an honest beauty that resonates in Ben Marwe raspy vocals. It's Aussie garage rock at it's finest. So get on board friend.

"All you get with Sydney town is a booze filled waste land" Since I'm off the hooch for a month, I've been noticing what Tim Fitz is going on about in his latest single 'Sour'. Sure you can have some really great boozy nights in Sydney but the reality is that if you head to Kings Cross on a Friday night you will 99% be accosted by some drunk-roid-rage-wanker and be annoyed by some really loud chick, who spends most of her time in the gutter because A) she can't walk in 6 inch heels when she's wasted and B) she's most likely vomiting rainbows because of all the Bacardi breezers she skulled in the cab. You get the point - kings X is gross and drinking in Sydney is overrated. 'Sour' is the first single of Tim's yet to be title EP (due out later this year). And if it's anything like his last two EP's then we're in for a treat.

What do The Ocean Party, Ciggie Witch and Mining Boom have in common? Firstly, If you haven't then you should check each of these bands out as they are RAD and secondly they all feature Melbourne's lovably loony Snowy Nasdaq. I don't know if he's actually a loony but for someone who has his finger in a lot of band pies and still finds time to release a song a month for a whole year, might be a little nuts. It's all happening through label Why Don't You Believe Me? Records and this month's single 'Lopsided Smile' is the perfectly obscure pop that we love and have come to expect from Snowy. And also includes some steamy-shower-BJ art work. Awesome.

The Dark Hawks have been playing around the traps of Sydney for a few years now. After recently spending some time in LA the band is back with a brand new single ‘California’. The four piece who is fronted by the cool-as-f@$k Angelina Anderson create high voltage rock'roll. The group consisting of Matt on guitar, Mark on skins, Ryan on bass and Angelina on vox emit plenty of energy with their sound. I can imagine being stuck in a really sweaty-mosh-pit, where you’re surrounded by some really smelly rock’n’rollers but it’s ok because you're mesmerised by Angelina’s raw vocals (being squished ain’t so bad at that moment). Anyway, The Dark Hawks are playing a bunch of shows to coincide with the release of this single. Go check them out.
SINGLE ‘CALIFORNIA’ IS OUT NOW

I came across this band today when I was looking for a gig to attend tonight and I saw that psych demons Flyying Colours are currently on tour and are playing the Oxford Art Factory tonight. Supporting FC are Sydney locals The Metal Babies. Far from what the name suggests these guys aren't a metal band nor are they babies :P They play straight up garage pop and single 'Great' oozes effortlessly in cool-slacker-pop territory. Get down to Oaf tonight and fuzz out. Details here.

Chloe, Jane, Ashlyn and Rhian are four ladies who play in an up and coming band called Childsaint. Their atmospheric indie folk sound is similar to Little May, only a little darker. The Perth quadrant create music that is executed quite beautifully - the guitar tones, the organic drumming and the angelic vocals make their first single 'Dessert' an exceptional listen. For a limited time, you can download 'Dessert' for free from their Soundcloud.

It took me some time trolling through 'Tiny Giant' bands on the internet before I found the one I was looking for. I found Tiny Giant's in Leeds-England, Limerick-Ireland and in Kendallville, which I had to google and found out it's some redneck town in Indiana in the US of A (No offence if your one of the 9,862 who live there but you should probably move) Anyway, finally found the Australian Tiny Giants. These young punks reside in the seaside town of Ocean Grove in Victoria and make fresh bluesy garage that you'd think they live smack bang in the middle of Fitzroy. 'Cage' is their latest single and it's dope as f#$k. Look out for Tiny Giants.

Neo-Psychedelia group The Citradels have been creating surreal atmospheric music since starting out in Geelong in 2010. The now Melbourne based band are about to released their forth album 'Nepenthe' on vinyl. If you dig their latest single 'Echolocation' get behind this band and pre-order a copy through their pledge campaign here. It's a good cause and as the band put it "None of this 'playing in your bathroom while you have a shower' bullshit, this is just for the people who believe in us and want our next album on vinyl". Word.

Martha Brown goes by the moniker Banoffee and she first caught our attention with her two singles 'Ninja' and 'Reign Down', which the Melbourne lass collaborated with Oscar Key Sung to get 'Reign Down' supreme. Her new single 'Got it' is also a joint venture with Key Sung and has a very repetitive chorus. That said, the lyrics captivate the listener and the beats fill in around the rhythmic nature of the song. Her minimal production and charismatic vocals are smooth and comfortable. Another single well worth a listen. Look out for her yet to be titled EP in August.

Mondays are the worst. Wait, it's Tuesday. Tuesdays are the worst. Weekdays are the worst. Is all about the weekend baby. Anyway, to get you to hump day Wednesday here is the latest single 'Monday Tuesday' from Melbourne 10 piece Dorsal Fins. Their last single 'Nothing Left To Hide' had a more grungy feel but 'Monday Tuesday' is all about that sweet 80's Synth pop. Enjoy this high octane number and if your lucky to live in Melbourne go see them play on one Wednesday of your choosing.
MONDAY TUESDAY SINGLE LAUNCH SHOWS
Wed 23 JULY | The Workers Club, Melbounre, VIC w/ Department & Grolette DJs
Wed 30 JULY | The Workers Club, Melbounre, VIC w/ Broadway Sounds & DJ Fraser A Gorman
Denpasar is the new songwriting and recording collaboration between Brisbane natives Benjamin Fahey (Don Koyote) and Alexander L'Estrange (Bilby). Their single 'Radar (Shine Your Way)' features My Own Pet Radio (The solo project of Sam Cromack from Ball Park Music). Still with me? I know there is a lot of new bands/side projects to take in all at once but it's a fantastic thing, bunch of mates from different projects, teaming up and creating new music. Keeping the Brisbane scene alive in 2014. If you like what you're hearing then look out for Denpasar's forthcoming EP Joy, where there will be more cosmic hits like Radar (Shine Your Way) and maybe even some more collaborations.

Using rocks, leaves, sticks, bark, bones and whatever else they could find, new Sydney band The Lulu Raes have dropped a pretty creative video for the release of their debut single 'The Way Life Runs'. The single is a little Phoenix-esque. But there's nothing wrong with that, I love those french bastards. It's fun indie pop with plenty of sharp guitar hooks and catchy vocals. Hopefully these guys release some more music real soon.

Melbourne's lofi buzz band Dick Diver are back with their latest single 'New Name Blues'. It's being released through Fruits and Flowers Records as a 7" with a side B cover of 'Lonely Life' by 1980's Aboriginal band Coloured Stone. 'New Name Blues' doesn't stray far from Dick Divers usual jangle pop but they do add some sensual sax, which we can all agree is pretty great.

The Vines have been out of the loop for quite some time, I mean I personally forgot about their last release Future Primitive (2011). I guess it didn't really do it for me but when I heard the band unveiled the details of their sixth studio album 'Wicked Nature', I got a little excited. New song 'Out The Loop' is short, raw and in your face. I loved 2002's 'Highly Evolved' because of the energy and if 'Out The Loop' is anything to go by then Wicked Nature could just be the comeback they need. The album is released on 2nd September and you can pre-order via PledgeMusic pronto.

There's nothing better then getting hammered with your girlfriend in the day time. You wake up around lunch time and head to your local bottle'o, where you buy the cheapest goon because you're unemployed and secretly like the taste of lambrusco, then you head to the local park and spend the rest of the afternoon drinking and chatting about failing Uni, the mystery surrounding the weird guy who sleeps on your couch and the dread of going into Centrelink. Yep, Richard In Your Mind have written a pop gem that blends crafty flute and xylophone effects with catchy lyrics, arranged on a simple back beat. Look out for their new album 'Ponderosa' out on August 29 through Rice Is Nice/Inertia.
