Spookyland - The Silly Fucking Thing

Spookyland is the the solo work of 22 year old Sydney musician Marcus Gordon. His debut single 'The Silly Fucking Thing' is drenched with reverb guitar, bluesy harmonica but what is most striking about this song is Marcus's vocals, they fill your ear holes, take you on a wormy journey, only to spit you out at 3.55 wanting more. You can download this one for FREE for limited time below.

Jep and Dep - The Babe Come Down

If you're not familiar with alternative country duo Jep and Dep and live in Sydney, then you've probably been living under a rock the last two years! These guys have been playing every dive bar from Circular Quay to Dulwich Hill. Made up of Darren Cross (ex Gerling, The E.L.F) and his fetching partner Jessica Cassar, they play music for the soul, just one guitar and two voices. 'The Babe Come Down', is their first single from their debut album 'Word Got Out', to be released later on this year. 'The Babe Come Down' sounds like Neil Young, Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra drove into the desert with an orchestra and wrote a song about an ex. It's a little melancholy, but after a couple whiskies, you should be tapping your boots and howling at the moon. You can catch them live in May.

'The Babe Come Down' Single Launch

THURS 1st May | The Loft, Broadway, Sydney, NSW w/ Caitlan Harnett, Lola and The Captain

Naked Maja - Out Of Mind

Brisbane four piece Naked Maja make splendid dream pop, the kind that raps it's warm ambient glow round your naked body and doesn't let go till you have drifted into a dream like state. And at that point,  all you can hear are those beautiful synths, supple vocals and those faint surging cymbals. 'Out Of Mind' is off their forthcoming EP titled 'The Vagrant' - which is set for an independent release this May.

SWRLS - Definition

Recorded about a girl next door, 'Definition' is a song about the burning desire reaching out and taking what it is that you are longing for. We don't know if vocalist/guitarist Thom Moore (Mercy Arms) got the girl in the end but he wrote some lyrics which we can all agree with. With the help of producer Richard Moore (Irrelevant Celebrities), and drummer James Watroba (Dirty Secrets) they make up new Sydney trio SWRLS. If you got a yearning to hear more, hopefully 'Definition' will satisfying till their debut EP drops this winter.

The Jones Rival - Uncle Frank

If you had an uncle Frank, he would either be A) that creepy relative who's always telling crude jokes and telling you "How you've grown" at family events or B) that quirky-feel-good uncle who bring's you gifts and tells you stories of how he caught a 15 foot shark of the coast of Papua New Guinea in the 1970's. I definitely would want to have uncle B and that's the guy The Jones Rival have probably written their new single about. It's much more raw then their previous single 'Busted' but still has plenty of lush guitar hooks and rock'n'roll drive. You can download this one for free at the moment below and catch them when they launch Uncle Frank this week.

THURS 24th MAY | FREDA'S BAR, Chippendale, Sydney w/ The Grease Arrestor, Mezko + Velvet Cave DJ's + Shaky Handz DJ's (Free Entry)

Bored Nothing - Why Were You Dancing With All Those Guys

Jealousy or the green-eyed monster as Shakespeare called it, is something that everyone has to deal with from time to time. You get into a rage, get really possessive and ultimately feel humiliation for how you acted and probably end up writing a song titled 'Why Were You Dancing With All Those Guys'. Melbourne's Bored Nothing most likely wrote this number after a dud night out at the local disco and lucky for them it turned out to be a pretty rad tune. It's available exclusively as a deluxe edition 7" from the bands bandcamp.

East - Old Age

The other day I received a press release in my inbox and all it said was 'Hi my name is East, Im 16 years old and live on the central coast, nsw. Earlier this year I had recorded my debut ep, that I had written myself, with my friend John Castle. All I want is to keep creating music, and to share it with anyone who wants to listen." The message was simple and straight to the point and upon listening to her debut track 'Old Age', I instantly fell in love with East's knack for writing a catchy pop song, with a strong hook and delivering the song with such maturity. Without doubt, East is an artist to look out for.

Blush Response - (Not In It) For Love

Finding happiness on the world wide web is entirely a matter of chance. Sure you might have a flattering chat with a high school rugby stallion on Facebook or buy yourself a nice pair of shoes from asos but when you trawl through all the crap and discover music that makes your day, you feel a sense of true happiness. Adelaide's Blush Response (aka Alister Douglas) filled my happy cup right to the top. With only an EP 'Telltale' to his name, I instantly became a fan. Dreamy shoe-gaze that Kevin Shields would be proud of. EP opener '(Not In It) For Love' is the strongest track but the other three are well worth a listen. If you're a fan of Flyying Colours, Lowtide or The Laurels then Blush Respone is for you. Join the club and download 'Telltale' for a very handsome name your price Here.

I know leopard - Daisy Eyes

Five piece I Know Leopard are based out of Sydney and aren't exactly an easy band to pin down when it comes to their sound. Their third single, 'Daisy Eyes' is off their upcoming debut EP 'Illumina' due out next month. 'Daisy Eyes' is a song that combines indie, surf, brit-pop, experimental electro and synths all into one. You might think "That sounds like a mess!" but once you hear this single, you'll understand why this young band is one to keep an eye on in 2014.

White Caves - Dig

Melbourne dream-pop outfit White Caves started as a bedroom project of Darren Cordeux (former lead singer of Kisschasy) in mid 2012. Inspired by the dreamy guitar drones of Spiritualized, Ride and My Bloody Valentine along with the breezy pop sensibilities of The Kinks, Cordeux’s aim was to take these influences and “create lavish soundscapes with virtually no budget”. 'Dig' is White Caves latest single which was mixed by Scott Horscroft (Birds of Tokyo, Silverchair). It's now available for free download from the band's Bandcamp

Pepa Knight - Rahh!

Pepa Knight is the co-frontman of jungle pop group Jinja Safari. After traveling around India and living in-and-around the Himalayas between 2011 and 2013, he recorded a number of samples and music on his laptop but after losing his hard drive, had to re-record the songs in his backyard home studio, which he had built in a giant tipi. Yep, a giant tipi! 'Rahh!' is the first single from Pepa and is a beautifully crafted pop song with many elements of world music and earthy feel good vibes. You can purchase it today from iTunes

Client Liaison - That's Desire

If your not familiar with Melbourne duo Client Liaison, then your in for a treat. You notice by observing the above photo A) they have a great wardrobe B) they have great hair and C) they love the Aussie terrain. But it's not all about big hair and colour co-ordinated threads, these guys have a very distinct sound. Big synths, big drums and a big saxophone solo are all present in their latest single 'That's Desire'. This single doesn't disappoint one bit. I'd also recommend watching the video here, Just another reason to become a fan.

Colours - You Can't See Me

Tom Crandles is the producer/songwriter behind new industrial shoegaze outfit Colours. Originally from Sydney Australia, Tom relocated to London and has been making his spacey sounds through a number of different guises over the past couple years. 'You Can’t See Me' is his first single under the new name and is being released through independent record label Father/Daughter Records in the US. This single has plenty to offer - hypnotic bass lines,  distorted drums, feedback-fuzzy guitar tones and Tom's mellow psych vocals do just enough to push the song along.
