The Preatures - Better Than It Ever Could Be

Without warning The Preatures have dropped their first song in 2014 called 'Better Than It Ever Could Be'. Let's face it, 2013 was a massive year for the band, touring their debut EP 'Is This How You Feel' round the country, playing show cases in the US and UK, getting signed to majors, winning Music prizes, playing sold out shows, not to mention getting #9 in triple J's top 100. Yep,  looks like 2014 is going to be even bigger for this relatively young band.

+TEES+ - Playground

Lizzy Tillman from Sydney psych band The Grease Arrestor and Sean Duarte from Virgo Rising have a new project called +TEES+. The duo realised that they shared similar frustrations towards making music so heavily defined by a specific genre and began making music in late summer of 2013. Mixing house, dance and pop music +TEES+ just dropped two singles 'Live It Up' and 'Payground', which have both been released on French label BEKO. 'Playground' is a breath of fresh air for Sydney and Australian music. Definitely an act to watch out for in 2014. Check out the video for the single here.

Fait - Slow Glow

So what are the 5 things we know about Perth based multi-instrumentalist Fait? 1) Her real name is Elise Higgins. 2) In the past she has worked with Dean Garcia (of Curve, Eurythmics). 3) Recently co-written a Cinematic Post Rock album for UK Publishing house Imagem Production Music. 4) She is currently working on her first EP with producer/engineer Darren Lawson (White Lies, My Bloody Valentine, Editors) and 5) Creating beautifully atmospheric shoe-gaze music like 'slow Glow'. If her Ep is anything like the track below, it will surely be a release to watch out for in 2014.

Colourwaves - You Sold Your Life For Pixels

Melbourne is home to some great chillwave bedroom producers, just have a listen to one of our favorite ladies Banoffee. Pure genius. Also making a name for himself is a fellow who goes by Colourwaves (real name Ryan Dodson). 'You Sold Your Life For Pixels' is the first single off his 3rd Ep 'World Warp' due out 3rd February. Colourwaves creates soundscapes that are beautiful and dreamy, all the while pushing the boundries of electronica. Before the Ep drops, you can download his last two Ep's for FREE from his bandcamp.

Lanks - Rise and Falls

Melbourne Lanks is the side project of Will Cumming, the frontman of indie pop band Farrow. Debut single 'Rises and Falls' is the first taste from Lanks and boy is it impressive. He creates an interesting soundscape during the 3 minutes and 8 seconds. Dreaming pop tones, minimal beats, layered with story telling vocals, think Mr Bon Iver, Mr James Blake and british lads Alt J had an Aussie love child. Lanks will be dropping his debut EP later in 2014, till then you can download 'Rise and Falls' for FREE from his bandcamp

Odlaw - Cabins

Do you remember that 2002 B-grade horror film Cabin Fever? The one where a group of good looking college kids rent a cabin in the woods and all get devoured by a flesh-eating virus? Sure you do, It had gore, pointless dialogue, raunchy sex and plenty of violence. I enjoyed it and I also enjoy the latest single 'Cabins' (named after the film) from WA's Odlaw. This neat indie rock will have you searching for your Vampire Weekend CD and that's a good thing; these guys are tight and are currently working on their debut EP due out mid 2014. Watch this space.

Peak Twins - China White

So they call synthetic heroin 'China White', the strongest form is some prescription pain med called fentanyl and good crackheads normally take it in tablets or a patch but seeing as they are crackheads, most inject the shit, which can be hundreds of times stronger than heroin and normally leads to 95% overdoes. 'China White' ain't so innocent and nor is Adelaide's Peak Twins  track from their self-titled debut album last year. It's beautiful and a tad dark and till now had no stream online but the good folk at Bedroom Suck Records have uploaded it for us to enjoy in moderation.

Baskervillain - Walls

Eric Clapton once said that "Rock is like a battery that must always go back to the blues to get recharged" and Brisbane outfit Baskervillain do exactly this, combining lush rock licks and classic blues sensibility to create a perfect balance of rock and blues. Walls is the first track these guys have released and I can't wait to hear what else they have in store for 2014. Treat your ipod with a free download below.
