Love Migrate - Dissolved

Melbourne five-piece Love Migrate have a new Ep out on the 1st of November through Flightless Records home to other SPK favorites King Gizzard and The Murlocs. 'Dissolved' is an atmospheric track that has beautiful instrumentation and frontman Eddie Alexander’s lyrics are confronting and honest. They are launching the EP on Sunday 8 December at The Tote (Melbourne).

Battleships - Take Your Rest

Sydney's Indie Folk quartet Battleships have been making a name for themselves, when they turned heads with a couple singles of their 'To You' Mini Album. Now back again with another single 'Take Your Rest'. In classic Battleships style there is plenty of melodic piano, haunting vocals and as the song nears the end, a wall of noise that carries the beauty of the track. Also check out the video here and catch them when they support Aussie Folk favorites Boy & Bear on their national tour around Australia in November.

Readable Graffiti - Happy to Be

Sometimes music comes into my inbox where I honestly think, does this song even come from 2013 and not 1993! Melbourne three piece Readable Graffiti have a new single out called 'Happy to Be', it's got a nostalgic piano riff and a primitive drum machine pattern that will have you in all the fluro clothes and dance like a spazz. The Video is a strange one as well but I'm glad that someone in Australia is still making music and video art in 2013 like Readable Graffiti

The Dead Heads - Power Tripping

It's not the first time that Sydney garage rockers The Dead Heads have been featured on SPK. Coming back with another catchy as fuck track 'Power Tripping' off their upcoming album 'For The Sake Of Sanity And Good Vibes' (great record title). This track has their signature driving drum beat, reverb drenched guitars and slacker vocals. I have to say The Dead Heads are one of the hardest working bands in Sydney at the moment, DIY again with this release, recorded, mixed and mastered all in their home studio. Also keeping things warm and fuzzy in the TV department, check out their psychedelic video for 'Power Tripping' here.

The Mountains - 1984

We've all read the classic 1984 by George Orwell, and I'm pretty sure it would be a favorite amongst Sydney country surf folk band The Mountains. They released this track on an EP called 'Bells and Fire' with tracks Packs, 1984, and Sun back in 2011 but '1984' has just resurfaced on Slow Country Records Soundcloud, which is home to The Mountains. It's a summer time feel good number with a country twist.

The Good Morrows - Help You Be Yourself

Radical snake single cover art will always get my attention but what also gets my attention is a song with a good hook. The Good Morrows have done just that with their new single 'Help You Be Yourself'. Throwing in psychedelia, Aussie garage and good old rock'n'roll, this track will be on repeat here at SPK. Ow, you can download it FREE from their Bandcamp. Winning.

Clap Clap Riot - Everybody

Clap Clap Riot aren't Australian, but geographically close enough, they're Kiwi's. 'Everybody' is a fast indie number with a driving bass line that is very reminiscent of another New Zealand band I love Die! Die! Die! If you find yourself wanting a little more then this stream, I do recommend watching their video for this track here, it's filmed somewhere in the US, Palm Desert, Nevada etc..It makes you wanna leave town and be somewhere in the sun. Enjoy!

Lëura - Drifter

25 year old Lëura has just released her first single from her forthcoming EP ‘Brutal, Broken, Unspoken’. 'Drifter' has a soundscape that flows somewhere between folk and 90's indie rock. Reminiscent of current UK darlings London Grammar and Daughter, Lëura is one Sydney songstress to keep an eye on.

Panama - Always

'Always' is the lead track from Panama's EP, which is available free download for a limited time from their bandcamp. The boys also just dropped their new video for the single, which you can watch here. It's full of cute little children, summer time nostalgia and the great out doors.

Covers - The Automation

So I couldn't find out much about this band other then what was in the press release and the above cheeky single cover because you try googling 'Covers" "Band" "Melbourne" ha, you could be there for hours! Anyway,  'The Automation' is a great track, mixing grungy 1960s krautrock, indie, electro-pop. This single is a melting pot of good sounds and production, which all adds up to a rewarding listen.

The Frowning Clouds - Much Too Much Too Soon

Much Too Much Too Soon! The baby's coming, hold my hand, Let go, ow no! It's not a baby, it's only a frowning cloud?! ok, don't know what that was but here is the new one from The Frowning Clouds. These guys come from "Sleepy Hollow" Geelong (largest non-capital city after Melbourne in Victoria) and they play '60s psych-rock with plenty of reverb. Enjoy.

The Stevens - Hindsight

We all have those friends who knew-it-all-along... those friends are quite annoying but having hindsight can have it's advantages. 'Hindsight' is also the latest single from The Stevens debut album 'A History Of Hygiene', released by Chapter Music on November 1, 2013. A jingle jangle guitar number with a feel good vibe.

Sister Jane - Whole Wide World

Five-piece Sister Jane live in Sydney and I also heard that some of the band live in the beautiful Blue Mountains; a peaceful place which surely inspired new single 'Whole Wide World', which is taken from their second album 'Frontier' which is due for release early 2014 via Broken Stone Records / Remote Control Records. You can catch them on their mini tour this November when they team up with Buried Feathers and Psychlops Eyepatch.

MELBOURNE - Sat 09 NOV | The Old Bar

Harts - leavn It All Behind

One man music making machine Harts has done it again, making love to our ear holes with this sexy, funky, disco number called 'Leavn It All Behind'. It clocks over the 6 minute but it never lags! Amazing, he's gone Independent, said F#$k you to the major labels, Prince loves him, yes, PRINCE! and quite frankly so should you.

The Upskirts - We Could Be A Team

With two solid EP's under their belts (Disconnection 2012, Vacations 2011) Sydney four piece The Upskirts have a new track called 'We Could Be A Team'. With a touch of psych, shoegaze and their classic signature drone rock, this track has a dark beauty to it. You can download this gem for free below.

Dark Bells - Want

Teneil Throssell & Ash Moss are the brains behind ex Sydney band Dark Bells. Teneil used to play in Diamondback Rattler and Ash in Mercy Arms with one of my favorite Australian musicians right now Kirin J Callinan. Dark Bells have been living in London since 2011, building a fan base and playing a bunch of festivals and local gigs. First taste from them is single 'Want'. Blending psychedelia, shoe gaze and garage rock, this song really comes to life with Teneil's melancholy vocals and Ash's driving bass lines. 'Want' is released on RIP Records, October 21st 2013. You can also watch the video here.

Till their vinyl is out (Friday 11th November), enjoy 'I Won’t Wait’, it's Aussie garage with a twist brit pop.
